Women Lose Out At MK Dons

Oxford United Women’s long unbeaten streak came to an end this afternoon when they were beaten 1-0 at MK Dons Women.

United caused the home side problems in an even first half and both top scorer Beth Lumsden and midfielder Lily Stevens went close after the break before the decisive moment came just after the hour when MK scored the only goal of the game with a finish at the back post.

The sparked a furious comeback from the U’s who saw Kayleigh Hines and Daisy McLachlan try their luck from distance before the defining moment of the match came as Lumsden’s fine effort from 35 yards came back off the bar and away.

“It just wasn’t our day” Manager Liam Gilbert told us. “It doesn’t change the fact I am proud of this group and the way we have stuck together all season. One result doesn’t define who we are or what we can still achieve.

“There is a long way to go still and there will be a lot of ups and downs not just for us but for all the teams around us. We just have to make sure we learn from today and bounce back straight away.”
