Defender Luke McNally was on the scoresheet against Portsmouth for the second time this season last night but his goal proved in vain as the U’s were beaten 3-2 by Pompey at Fratton Park.
“It was a great atmosphere but obviously we were disappointed in the dressing room after because we had enjoyed three wins on the bounce before tonight” he told iFollow. “But there’s no time to dwell on it. We have to lift ourselves now because Saturday is another huge game for us (at home to Burton)
“Their goals before half time were the key and as defenders we know it’s not the first time this season we conceded goals like that. But at half time, even 2-1 down, everyone in that dressing room believed we could get back into the game and win it. I’m sure Portsmouth would disagree but I thought if you take the game over all then we were the better team out there. But the result is all that matters really.
“Our fans were brilliant. I have never known them get on our backs at all so a lot of the disappointment was that we didn’t get them anything tonight. But fair play to them to come down after work, fighting against the traffic and the weather, and to give us that support was amazing. Hopefully we give them something to cheer about on Saturday.
“Now we will come back in to the Training Ground on Thursday and we go again. We have been good at home so I’m looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully putting tonight right.”
