Oxford United’s fans are backing Karl Robinson’s side in huge numbers this season with the highest league crowd since the promotion season of 2015/16 there to see the U’s grab a dramatic late goal to draw 1-1 with Ipswich Town on Saturday.
11,029 people were there to see Luke McNally’s 95th minute goal- the highest number since the win over Wycombe Wanderers in May 2016 that sealed promotion for the U’s.
“The fans have been amazing this year” Karl told us. “We are on track for the highest average of any season at the Kassam Stadium and that’s five out of six home games where we have had over 10,000 fans there.
“That support makes such a difference and keeps driving us forward. There are still some massive games to come so we want those fans to come along for the last four games as well please.”
United’s attendances this season are extraordinary with five of the 18 10,000+ crowds to see league games at the stadium - five out of 15 in the EFL as three big crowds supported the U’s in the Conference years.
And if you wonder what difference the support makes, United’s record in front of crowds of over 10,000 reads P 18, W 9 D3 L6
There are just three home league games to go: Sunderland, MK Dons and Doncaster Rovers. There are going to be big crowds for those games too so book early and be part of United’s chase for the play-offs.
