Oxford United Women have strengthened in defence ahead of the new season, signing experienced full-back Shelly Provan.
Shelly joins from Southampton, where she won the Southern Premier Division last season.
She told us:
“It’s been really exciting; I’ve got to know the girls and the setup, and I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen so far so I’m really excited to get involved and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”
Speaking on her previous encounters with the Yellows, Provan said “Playing for Southampton last year, we obviously knew that Oxford had a really strong season. They were really hard for teams to take points off of and we personally found it hard to take points from them. Technically and tactically they did really well across the season."
What will Shelley bring to the team?
“Hopefully that experience of winning the league last season, it’s a tough league to get out off. I think we have a really good opportunity this year to push on and get promoted and I think that’s got to be the aim this season. If I can be a part of that then that would be brilliant.”
Manager Liam Gilbert said:
"We are delighted to have someone who is such a good person as well as such a good player. She’ll bring so much experience and support for the rest of the group."
