Oxford United boss Karl Robinson was more than happy as his side kicked off pre-season with an excellent 5-2 win at Oxford City on Saturday.
“I thought things looked right,” he told iFollow. “We showed bits of our game which I was really happy with. We moved the ball well ourselves and we disrupted them when they were in possession.
“I wish City all the best in the world for the new season; it’s a fantastic football club and for us it was important to come here and put on some sort of show for the fans. I have been here three or four times now and City have got better every time but I think we have as well.
“Last year we scored a late goal to win, this year we put in a really strong performance, and that’s good to see.
"We spoke about what we expected before the game and it wasn’t to do with technique or tactics, it was to do with energy levels and to get as much out of the week as we could. The lads landed and got home from Spain about 1am because the flight got delayed, so to come out here with that energy, after a tough week’s work, shows we are in a good place.
“Now we have another good week back at the training ground and then games at North Leigh and Banbury to look forward to next weekend.”
