Oxford United’s Under 18s came away with a point after a draw at Swindon Town on Saturday in the Youth Alliance League.
A good finish from a tight angle from Enrique Tiamuna put the U’s ahead and they could have doubled their lead through Gatlin O’Donkor, who just couldn’t apply the finishing touch to a difficult chance.
However Swindon were allowed back into the game after a misunderstanding in the box led to the ball being fired past Fraser Barnsley to make it 1-1
In a game of few chances Josh Johnson could have grabbed a late winner but Coach Chris Hackett told us
“The boys showed a good mentality and togetherness in some poor conditions. A game against Swindon is always going to have an edge and we had enough chances to win the game but one mix-up was all they needed to get back into it.
“Overall, I think we played well. We played quite a young squad today, mainly first years and under-16s. I was impressed with how they adapted to the conditions and it was a good bit of experience for them heading into the last few games of the season.”
