Oxford United Women beat Plymouth Argyle Women 3-0 at Court Place Farm yesterday in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Lily Stevens and Leah Burridge gave United a 2-0 lead at the break, before Daisy McLachlan sealed the win after the U’s were forced to absorb second half pressure from Argyle.
Manager Liam Gilbert said
“I thought some of the football we played today compared to against Plymouth earlier in the season, you can see a massive progression in our understanding of our identity and our game model. It was really positive to see how patient we were and how we recycled the ball, and in the first half we must’ve had around 35 minutes of the ball.”
“I think we went searching at times a bit in the second half and it left us a bit exposed. They’re very quick on the counter attack and they got in behind a few times and Rose has made some big saves, that if they go in it’s a very different cup tie. It must’ve been a very entertaining game for the neutral.”
The Yellows had to battle through freezing conditions at Court Place Farm. Leah Burridge told us
“The first half was alright! We helped ourselves out by moving the ball quickly and keeping possession, but it did start to get very cold out there in the second half. We did make some mistakes and we were fortunate they didn’t get back into the game.”
The U’s now eagerly anticipate who they will draw in the Fourth Round. The draw will be broadcast live on the Vitality Women’s FA Cup social media channels and on The FA Player from 7PM tonight, the 12th of December.
“It’s always exciting going into the next round. We could get anyone now with Championship and Women’s Super League sides in that pool, so we’re really excited for it” added goal scorer Burridge.
