Following the magnificent success of the Lionesses yesterday there is a chance to see Oxford United Women in action this week when they take on Spurs Under 21s in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
The Yellows will face top-flight opposition in the young Spurs at The Velocity Stadium. Kick off is at 19:00 and gates will open at 18:30.
“It was an unbelievable day for the whole country, not just women’s sport” captain Lauren Haynes told us. “To hear Robyn Cowen commentating, someone who has done so much to help Women’s football in Oxford, and to see the crowd and the reaction was amazing.
“Women’s football across Oxfordshire is growing all the time and obviously there has never been the same level of interest as there is right now. We want people to get involved - come and watch us play, or maybe come and play the game yourself. We have teams at all age groups in the RTC for young players and a Women’s Walking Football team there for people who may have been inspired by Sunday.
“As it happens our first game after the final is a friendly against a very strong Spurs team full of good young players so hopefully people come along and enjoy watching us ahead of what we hope will be an exciting season for ourselves that carries on the good work from the Euros.”
Spurs Women finished 5th in the WSL last season, and boast some world class talent. It will be a great test for United, who are gearing up for an exciting season.
Tickets are just £3, and the bar will be open, so come on down and cheer on the girls.
United Women’s National League season kicks off at The Velocity Stadium on the 21st August against Bridgwater. We can’t wait, and hope to see many of you there.
