United get a chance to make amends this week as they welcome Lincoln City to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
“We need to be better, we know that, all of us” defender Sam Long told iFollow after the game on Saturday. “We need to improve all over the pitch and that needs to start happening on Tuesday"
Sam came as close as anyone to a goal for the U's with a header that hit the bar when the game was 0-0 but it was little consolation, as he told us:
“We were bitterly disappointed. Overall we maybe didn’t deserve to lose but we were sloppy in certain areas of our game and if you do that at places like this where they make it so difficult for you, then you are going to lose.
“It’s really frustrating. We had spells in the game where if we had taken our chances then it’s a different story. But we didn’t do that today and they punished us from a set piece which we should have done better with, so we leave here disappointed.
“The fans were fantastic and we are so disappointed not to repay them with a result.
“Oxford fans are brilliant wherever we go and we thank them for coming out and standing in that sun like that. We apologise for not getting a result for them. Now we have to put that right with the two home games this week.”
Get behind Sam and the team on Tuesday as the U’s welcome Lincoln, and then on Saturday when Morecambe come to the Kassam Stadium.
