United Women face Spurs Under 21’s tonight at The Velocity Stadium, home of Oxford City (7pm)
Manager Liam Gilbert is looking forward to the test.
“It will be a good challenge; they’re putting a lot of emphasis on their youth system as a lot of clubs are so it will be nice to see where they’re at. We’ve had two really difficult challenges so far in pre-season, so this will be a different challenge and hopefully, we’ll acquit ourselves well.”
The Yellows made their home ground a fortress last season, going unbeaten in the league at The Velocity Stadium. Liam stressed the importance of the fans in helping the team achieve that record.
“We are really looking forward to playing at home in front of fans again. It was a massive boost for us last year to go unbeaten at home, we had such a warm welcome and the fans really got behind us and because of how the ground is built up we could really feel and hear the support every game. Season tickets have just come out, hopefully, it was just a starting point last year and we can continue to build this year”
With just under three weeks until the season begins, the Yellows will continue to work hard before their opener against Bridgwater United at home on the 21st of August.
“We need to work more on a few finer details in terms of pattern, shape, and movement, and we also need a few girls to get a few more minutes in the tank.”
Tickets for tonight’s game are £3. Season tickets will also be available to buy on the gate for just £40, or £20 to existing men’s season ticket holders.
Gates open at 18:30 tonight for a 19:00 kick-off.
