Oxford United Women enjoyed an excellent win in the Women’s National League South at Ipswich this afternoon.
A late goal from Merrick Will was enough to give the U’s a 1-0 win in a terrific game between two excellent sides.
The win moves the U’s up to just two points behind second-placed Ipswich, with a game in hand and boss Liam Gilbert told us:
“I am so proud of this group of players. To stick together through a really tough season, to come away to a place like this and to take all three points tells you everything you need to know about us.
“We battled hard from the very first minute and I couldn't have asked for anything more from them. We worked on a few things in training and the way they executed that game plan was fantastic. I thought we dominated the first half and although Rose Kite had to make one or two saves we were also dangerous after the break and I thought we deserved the win.
“Now we have two games left to play, both away, with the champions Southampton our next match so we will enjoy this win, get back home and start preparing for the next match.”
