Oxford United were left frustrated to only pick up a point at home to Gillingham on Saturday but there were plenty of positives including a Man of the Match performance from Herbie Kane on his home debut.
“It was one of those games where we had full control and started well, but when that happens you need to finish teams off” the on-loan Barnsley man told us.
“Our final ball didn’t quite get the second goal so that’s something we need to work on next time. From back to front I felt we were in control early on but you know that teams like Gillingham will always stay in the game. We didn’t punish them and that’s why the game went the way it did. But we will build on the point and hopefully next game we can take our chances and go one better.”
Kane’s performance alongside Alex Gorrin and Cameron Brannagan in midfield looked to have genuine potential for the U’s.
“There’s a good balance between us all” he said. “We all like to get on the ball and we have a good structure. I thought it worked well on Saturday and I certainly enjoyed being part of it.
“I enjoyed playing my first home game as well. In games like that we need the fans to stick with us and they really got behind us today. We just needed to get that next goal to win the game for them
“We are frustrated not to win but we have to put it behind us, recover and hopefully get three points on Tuesday.”
