Oxford United head for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday looking to build on a fine 5-1 win over Accrington on Tuesday night.
The U’s are still searching for their first away win this season but travel to Hillsborough in good form and boss Karl Robinson told iFollow:
“It will be a great occasion. It is a fantastic place to go although I always take a moment and go away by myself to pay my respects before the game if I manage there because I had family at Hillsborough on that day many years ago.
“I have been there as a Manager when the home side have been struggling and when they have been going really well and every time the one constant is the amazing support they get.
“We played well on Tuesday, but I thought we played well on Saturday as well. We were just a bit more ruthless in our finishing in midweek and things fell our way at times- the ball ran for Nathan Holland for the first goal and obviously for the own goal near the end. So I’m not too concerned what other people have said; I know things are coming together nicely and we are on the right track.
“But we are going to one of the four most difficult places in the division on Saturday. People look a lot in to our away form but if lady luck had gone our way on the road then we could be unbeaten: we dominated at Cambridge and Bolton, Cheltenham for an hour and Wimbledon other than set pieces.
“We have been good away from home although we know there are one or two things we can do better. That is always going to be the case and we have been working hard all week ahead of the game.
“Sam Winnall has been ill and hasn’t trained this week so he’ll be gutted to miss a trip to his old club; Jordan Thorniley missed out on Tuesday but is another of their old boys who will want to be involved. But everyone wants to play and we will take a big following, like we always do, so it’s a game we are really looking forward to.”
