Oxford United were saddened to learn of the death on Sunday of former goalkeeper Owen Medlock at the age of 83.
After starting his career at Chelsea, Owen signed for Swindon after completing his National Service. He played three League games for the Robins before joining United in December 1959.
He made his Headington United debut against Gravesend & Northfleet and went on to play 133 games for the U's, keeping 38 clean sheets.
Owen was in goal for United in their first Football League game at Barrow in August 1962. His final game was on 23rd May 1965 against Newport County.
After leaving the U’s Medlock joined Chelmsford, where he starred in successive Southern League title challenges. He helped the Clarets to the Southern League title in 1968, retiring the following year.
The club passes its condolences to Owen’s family and friends.
