Matty Taylor was on the scoresheet again on Saturday but his early strike counted for little as Plymouth Argyle came from behind to win 3-1 at the Kassam Stadium and stay top of the League 1 table.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted” Matty told iFollow. “We took the lead and I thought we were brilliant in spells, although Plymouth were very good as well and obviously they are a very good side to be top. But I thought there were two very good teams out there and I just thought they took their chances and were clinical but on another day you wouldn’t bat an eyelid if it was us who won 3-1.
“For 20 minutes after half time we were throwing everything at them and just couldn’t get it in the back of the net.
“If we got that back to 2-2 then there was probably only one winner. We got caught by a sucker punch really, maybe a little bit of tiredness from trying to push for the goal, but a great finish from them and it is 3-1 and very tough from there.
“We went for it and had a go. We thought we could beat them today but they are riding that wave and that’s why they are top at the minute. But we know we aren’t too far off that.
“You can’t change the result, it hurt us and we will analyse it but then all our attention turns to Tuesday which is another huge game for us, one where we need to try and get three points and claw the ground back between us and Plymouth.”
