We are delighted to have a very special Guard of Honour when Oxford United welcome Rotherham United to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
Summertown Stars FC Warriors is a unique football team. It was set up two years ago to cater for children aged 4-16 with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy, mitochondrial disease and brain injury. Some players are ambulant and use a frame.
The club is passionate about creating an inclusive environment in which children can give football a go, learn some new skills and make friends
For some it is a low-key kick around with new friends; for others, the chance to get competitive on the football field has been a revelation.
Support is available on and off the pitch, and the community aspect is really important. The coaches are all volunteers and enjoy teaching football skills to such inspiring children. The Warriors are highly valued members of the parent club, Summertown Stars FC and we were delighted to have them as our guests on Tuesday night against Fleetwood ahead of their big day with us on Saturday.
Please make them feel at home as they welcome the sides on to the pitch just before three o’clock.
If you know a child who would like to give it a go, please contact Sarah Griffiths: disability@summertownstars.org.
Sessions are fun, friendly and free! No experience necessary.
