PREVIEW Oxford United v Rotherham United

Oxford United welcome Sky Bet League 1 leaders Rotherham United to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (3pm)

The U's are still without seven players who are self-isolating after positive covid tests and who missed Tuesday night's win over Fleetwood Town.

Goalkeeper Connal Trueman signed on Emergency Loan from Birmingham City that afternoon and made his debut as cover for Simon Eastwood and Jack Stevens. Eastwood is due back to training next week while Stevens took part in a light first session back yesterday after a non-covid related illness.

Six players were missing through injury in midweek but former Rotherham winger Ryan Williams has a chance of being involved against his old club on Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

An excellent win at Ipswich means Paul Warne’s side are top of the table but the Manager, who has been in charge for five years now, knows his side need to keep their standards just as high when they visit the Kassam Stadium.

“We always recruit really honest people and they know how hard they have to train and how well they have to play to stay in the team” he told Rotherham’s iFollow. “If they don’t keep their standards up they know they will be out of the team because there are good players to come in. I wasn’t happy with some of the things against Ipswich despite winning so we can enjoy the win but by the time the bus gets home we have already watched the game and started started talking about Oxford.

“It was great on Tuesday night but if we want that feeling again on Saturday we have to perform at that level, at least, again.”
