It’s Town v Gown on Saturday as Oxford United’s youngsters take on Oxford University in a friendly.
United’s under 19 side will welcome the University team to the Oxford Sports Park for a friendly which we hope will become an annual event as a tribute to Micky Lewis who coached both teams and was loved by everyone connected to football in Oxford.
While the older scholars take on the University the under 17s will travel to West Ham for a friendly. Having offered scholarships to a number of under 16s it is a first chance for all of next year’s youth team squad to be involved for a match.
Dan Harris, Academy Manager, told us
“The University approached us about a game and it will be really interesting to see how the two sides compare. Obviously the students will be slightly older and we hope it will be a really good game. The younger lads get a chance to take on West Ham, which will be great experience but they will also be together for the first time as a group and we can start to build things for next season when they are going to be spending a lot of time together and hopefully enjoy a successful season as a squad..”
