Oxford United Women's league season has been curtailed with immediate effect and declared incomplete following today's update from The FA.
No further league fixtures will take place this season, although The U's will still travel to Cardiff City in the Women's FA Cup on April 4th.
Manager Liam Gilbert told us:
“Today's announcement isn't the news that we wanted, and we are naturally disappointed. I'm proud of the work that the players and staff have done, as well as the fantastic support which we've had throughout the season.
“The players have been working hard for the last few weeks with their 'at home programs' ahead of our return in the FA Cup. For now we will set our sights on that and control what we can control.
“The statement from the FA ends the prospect of us playing further league games this season but now we will rely on the integrity of the relevant authorities and see how they decide next season looks.
"The pandemic will have changed things for all clubs at our level and we thank the Oxford United Board for their continued support throughout the year. We will keep building and keep looking to progress football at Oxford United and across Oxfordshire and we await further news on how the leagues will be structured and when we can play games again.”
