Oxford United Women earned their first win in pre-season on Tuesday evening when Liam Gilbert’s side defeated Birmingham City Under-21s 3-0.
Last year’s Players’ Player of the Season Carly Johns opened her goalscoring account for this campaign when she struck twice in the second half, while summer signing Beth Lumsden also struck her first goal for the club in the second hal.
The game presented the opportunity for two ofthe U’s summer signings Riva Casley and Molly Childerhouse to make their first starts for the club upon their arrival, as United’s defensive resolve earned a first clean sheet of pre-season.
Following the victory, Manager Liam Gilbert spoke about continuing to improving the team’s fitness levels as the National League campaign draws closer.
“We’ve now managed to get 90 minutes into all of the players’ legs, which is really important for this stage in pre-season so I’m really happy with that.
“New patterns and new partnerships are starting to develop within the team now which I’m really happy with, and of course it’s always great to play in front of our fans.”
Supporters can come along and watch United’s final pre-season friendly at Court Place Farm this Sunday, when the U's welcome Women’s Championship side Charlton Athletic.
The game will be pay on the gate, with adult tickets priced at £3, concessions £1 and under-16s go FREE.
