Karl Ready for First Pre-Season Game

Oxford United are all set for their first pre-season game of the summer when they travel to Oxford City on Friday evening.

The U’s travel across town to face David Oldfield’s National League South side at Court Place Farm and boss Karl Robinson is more than ready to see his team start playing:

“I can’t wait” he told iFollow. “We have trained really well this week in Bournemouth and the spirit in the players is strong already but there is nothing like playing matches to get you excited for the new season.

“We get on really well with City and that’s important. They have ambitions and to have two strong clubs in Oxford is fantastic. Imagine if we could reach the Championship and City were in the National League, one step below the Football League itself.

“We want to build strong links with all our local clubs. I went along to North Leigh last night and Chrissy Allen and Eddie Odhiambo were there which is great. The game was in memory of a fan, Lloyd Calcutt, and that shows the community side and what this club means to people.

“After City we will play Hayes and Yeading over at Thame where they have wonderful facilities and are building for the future, then on Wednesday we go to Banbury and I get to face Andy Whing on the touchline!

“So the next week sees three really good games and just builds our links with our local sides. Fans can come along to all three, which is really important as well; I am sure they will be made to feel safe as well as welcome and we look forward to seeing our fans again over the next few days.”
