Mide Shodipo’s last-gasp winner was enough to give Oxford United a 4-3 win at Rochdale last night to extend their winning run to seven games.
The on-loan QPR winger lobbed the keeper from long distance to win a thrilling encounter at Spotland.
“When the ball came to me I just thought ’let me have a strike, you never know what might happen’. Their player had just tried it from even further out. Jack got back and saved that one but to be fair I thought it was going in! Luck was on our side and then when the ball came out to me I thought I’d try the same and this time luck was on my side.
“It was a mad game to be involved in, especially to finish 4-3 but there could have been a lot more goals in it as well. There were chances at both ends.”
“We are on a great run at the moment but we just take each game as it comes and just prepare for each one individually. We know we have to fight it out in every game, work our socks off and hopefully take our chances when they come along.”
Mide now has eight goals for the U’s, a remarkable scoring record, and is hoping he can add to his tally still further:
“Tonight the Gaffer just told me to go on, change the game and make an impact. Luckily I did that tonight. That’s eight for the season and I’d love to get more. It would be good to get more tap ins too!”
The U’s will get a well-earned rest today but the hard work continues at the Oxford Sports Park from Thursday onwards with another big game coming up at the weekend.
“We all drove up individually so it’s a long drive home for all of us" Mide said. "Then we recover on Wednesday and come back in on Thursday, prepare properly again, and get ready for Fleetwood on Saturday.”
