Oxford United will look to regain some momentum when they welcome Bristol Rovers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
The postponement of Saturday’s Sky Bet League 1 game at Northampton Town on Saturday means that the U’s were left slightly frustrated as Karl Robinson told us today:
“The frustration is probably not so much at the game being called off, it’s because our momentum is gone now” he said. “We have been on a great run but we are going to have to start again. We have had seven games called off now, all of them beyond our control. People have been saying we have momentum but how do you have that when the last game was January 2nd?
“I won’t go into the game being called off on Saturday, that’s not our decision. But we had two excellent league wins away from home at Plymouth and Burton and then we’ve had two blank weekends: we’ve only played one league game so far this year as a result. The Papa John’s game against Cambridge was good and allowed one or two players to get game time but others haven’t played for two weeks.
“We tried to move a game forward to Tuesday night but that’s not happening at such short notice so we just have to train instead. We have another clear week and then our first home game in the league since Boxing Day.
“A month between home games is a long time in football but we’re not complaining about things and we are in a good place over all. We have always known that this season would be stop start and that we would have to be flexible and we work well as a club in those circumstances. It’s challenging but we like a challenge and of course we know there are a lot of people a lot worse off than we are right now.
“We are going to have a really congested fixture list now but the one thing we love is to play games of football. I think there is going to have to be some flexibility all round to try and find a way of getting games played. We came in and trained on Saturday and are in again today. All we can do now is work hard this week and get ourselves ready for the game at the weekend and try and pick up where we left off.”
