Oxford United head for Northampton on Saturday looking to extend their excellent recent run of results.
The U’s made it five wins in a row with a 1-0 win over Cambridge in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday night, extending their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions.
“We are in good form, but we can’t stop there” James Henry told iFollow today. “We need to keep building on that and keep putting points on the board and see where it takes us.
“We started slowly but historically we seem to have done that over the last few years. Which is annoying! But because of that I don’t think any of us really panicked. We knew we had the players, the ability and self-belief to get ourselves back up the table. So now it’s just a case of maintaining our form if we can and trying to chase that leading pack.
“At the moment it’s about not planning too far ahead. Just get on with things and adapt quickly. That’s what we’ve had to do this season but it’s the same for everyone in all walks of life. We have all had to adapt and change everything. So we’ll never complain about having to change a few things around football matches- there are much bigger things in the world.
“Obviously we love being able to play and it’s great for us. We are just delighted that football is still going on and it gives people something to look forward to. .”
United’s winning run started with a 4-0 win at home to the Cobblers in December but James is not taking any notice of that result ahead of the rematch:
“No, I know the scoreline was 4-0 but I think it was 1-0 until the 75th minute or so and the game was very close. The first half in particular was a very cagey affair and in the end we just had that little bit extra late on.
“But we know Saturday will be close again, we know how Northampton like to play, know they are a good side, so it’s just a case of trying to eliminate their strengths and try to make sure we play to our own.”
