Oxford United can move one step closer to a Wembley final tonight when they welcome AFC Wimbledon to the Kassam Stadium in the quarter final of the Papa John’s Trophy.
United brought in Joe Grayson, Elliot Lee and Brandon Barker yesterday and although none of them will feature tonight boss Karl Robinson is looking for others to step up:
“We will make changes” he told iFollow.” Not for the sake of it but if we win then we face Saturday/Tuesday games for five weeks and that is a challenge. We rotated a little bit at Rochdale and we will make changes again but we will be strong, I promise you that.
“There are players who need games - Mark Sykes will start for sure and he has been brilliant for us and deserves a chance - but we have to be sensible in how we do things and we have to measure the workload. But we want to win, simple as that.
“Wimbledon changed the Manager at the weekend and for me it is always sad when someone loses their job. I have a lot of respect for their backroom team. When we played them they were eleventh and they have just gone on a run where they have maybe been a bit unlucky. Even on Saturday they were the better team for 45 minutes against MK Dons.
“Whoever is in charge we have to be ready for anything they might try. If I were them I would look at the second half when we played them and see how they got in our faces and made it really difficult for us, but I don’t really like talking about other teams too much.
“I’d rather concentrate on ourselves. The run we are on is fantastic and whatever the competition is, we want to keep this run going. “
