Oxford United Women get ready for the new season with their final friendly of the summer on Sunday.
The U’s take on Arsenal U21s at Court Place Farm (2pm) looking to end the summer on a high ahead of their season opener at home to Gillingham the following Sunday.
“It will be a good game” Manager Liam Gilbert told us. “Obviously Arsenal are a fantastic team and it’s good for us to have the relationship where we can play friendlies like this and test ourselves against some of the best young players in the country. We signed Daisy Ackerman on a duel contract with them and she featured for their first team at the Emirates last weekend against Chelsea so there are strong connections between us.
“In terms of the game itself I have an idea what my starting line-up will be against Gillingham in the first league game but it is written in pencil at the moment and there are plenty of players who can push themselves on to that teamsheet when I hand it in next Sunday.
“We have built a strong squad and with the season a week away it’s up to the players to show who should be starting next week. We beat Birmingham U21s 3-0 last Tuesday and have worked hard and played really well all pre-season so now we have one last opportunity to fine tune and get things right for a long season ahead.”
