Oxford United’s under 18 side enjoyed a fine win this morning with a 4-0 win against Cheltenham at the Training Ground in the Youth Alliance South West Division.
Second half goals from Elijah Coe, Gatlin O’Donkor, Josh Anifowose and Enrique Tiamuna ensured a comfortable victory.
United were dominant throughout and spurned some great chances in the first half, midfielder Josh Johnson going close just ten minutes in after Cheltenham failed to clear a corner.
Then O’Donkor hit the bar with a header before Adam Smith drew a wonderful save from the visitor’s keeper. The best chance of the half though came five minutes before the break when O’Donkor was tripped in the area. The United striker stepped up himself but was denied by the keeper from the spot.
That meant the U’s had to wait until five minutes after half time to break the deadlock. It came after O’Donkor robbed a defender of the ball and teed up Coe who slotted home on the run.
Just two minutes later the lead was doubled after an almost identical penalty incident saw O’Donkor felled.
Fortunately, the outcome from the spot was different with O’Donkor making no mistake this time and smashing the ball straight down the middle.
Anifowose got United’s third after a brilliant mazy run and finish before Tiamuna completed the scoring when he stabbed home a Ben Watt cross at the second attempt.
An impressive display by the young U’s.
