Oxford United trained at the Kassam Stadium today as they prepare for their first home game of the season against Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday.
“We haven’t played any pre-season games at home so we wanted to come in and make sure everyone knows their surroundings, where we enter the ground with fans back, train on the pitch and just make sure we all feel at home and have a familiarity” Karl Robinson told us.
“It’s the first home game and the atmosphere and the excitement of having fans back at the ground is building and building. There hasn’t been a minute when we’ve not missed our fans being here.
“It’s going to be a tough game though. I have some great memories at Charlton. When I went in there it was a mess and as you know I like to be involved in everything at a club so there was a lot of work to do. I am so pleased to see the club being run so well now: I loved every minute there and I love playing against them now.
“We know they are a talented side but so are we. We changed things around on Wednesday and some players stepped up to the challenge and come into my thoughts for Saturday. We have a doubt over Elliott Moore with a chest problem and we have to manage Sam Long properly over the next couple of weeks to get him back from a slight calf injury, but we are in a good place.
“We have got a first point on the board at Cambridge and we have gone through in the Carabao Cup and will have a great night at QPR with the fans. So now we look to finish the first week of the season on another positive note by picking up a first league win and a first home win on Saturday.”
