It is with great sadness that Oxford United learned of the death of our former inside-forward Kevin Cornwell last week at the age of 78 after a period of illness.
Kevin initially joined United on loan from Banbury Spencer in March 1962, making his debut in the side’s final Southern League campaign.
Once Oxford had secured promotion the signing was made permanent, and Kevin played in United’s first Football League game at Barrow.
He went on to make 28 appearances for the side, scoring 10 goals, before he joined Cambridge City in 1964; his final club was Cheltenham Town.
Kevin lived in Oxford and remained a friend to many at the club. Our thoughts are with his family who have requested donations to the Alzheimers Society.
