Oxford United head for Peterborough on Saturday looking to find a rhythm after recent postponements. The U’s take on the Posh after their scheduled home game in midweek was postponed for the second time.
“It’s been stop-start so far this season” Karl Robinson told iFollow this afternoon. “I feel sorry for the players because we have prepared to play in two games that haven’t materialised. We started well and got beaten, then played poorly and rightly lost to Sunderland. We’ve played very well in the cup games but then we got a great result at Accrington and were really happy with our performance and looking to build on that against Crewe and don’t get the chance to do so.
“Then we get another great cup result, play well next game and I am still baffled how we lose but we get a chance to put that right quickly and that gets called off again.
“So now we have some very difficult games in quick succession. Peterborough will be tough. The two grounds I don’t generally do very well at at Gillingham and Peterborough! But I have to mention Peterborough too because they emailed us this morning to let us know what to expect right now when we arrive on Saturday. That’s classy and fair and exactly what I would expect from a top club like that.
“I have respect for clubs who do things right and everyone knows how much respect I have for Darren. We go back a long way, started roughly the same time and have played against each other a lot. So we have total respect for the opposition on Saturday and that will continue at the weekend.
“Last season we had played Newcastle and gone to extra time and then we were a little bit unlucky to be 2-0 down at half time. After that we capitulated through fatigue, so I don’t think that’s a fair reflection.
“That’s probably the year before where we drew 2-2 in an excellent game of football. We have picked up decent points there before and hopefully it’s another very exciting game at the weekend against a very good team.”
