Boss Karl Robinson was not in the mood to pull any punches last night when he spoke to iFollow after United's 2-0 home defeat to Crewe.
"We have lost a game and I have seen a side to us that I didn’t thnk we had in our dressing room" he said. "I came out to speak a long time after the final whistle because a lot needed to be said. A lot of truths. We asked for input from the players and we were honest with each other because there were so many things where we we off it tonight.
“I can't defend what Oxford United were like tonight. It would be more of a worry if I was standing here saying we played well and lost again. There are one or two fundamentals. Players know what they are. The club is built around desire, a counter press, a forward pass on the turnover, on shots and crosses, and on a rigorous defensive unit that is hard to beat. Those are things that all managers demand.
"I have to take responsibilty as Manager. I’m not pushing it all one way. There are questions asked and we will be brutally honest when we answer them.
"What we saw was unacceptable tonight. You can’t get away from how bad it was. I was calm, I didn’t lose my temper, I was just honest with the players and the floor was open for the counter-argument if they wanted to. It never came back.
"I sent most of the staff out, there were only three of us in there plus the players because the support staff are fantastic and give me everything. They had given the players eveything so I asked them to step out and just me, the coaches and the players could roll our sleeves up and have a conversation.
“I won't go in to details about what was said, but I will say that we were honest with each other, and everyone knows what is expected moving forward.”
