Each week we have been asking club psychotherapist Gary Bloom to suggest five ways to help with mental health through these difficult times.
This week Gary has added a football theme to his advice:
1) Take each game as it comes.
Rather than worry about when the lockdown will end, take one day at a time. Our brains can cope with small time frames much easier.
2) Red cards
Try to find a quiet space in your house, garden or local area where you can get away if things are getting heated. Space gives us perspective.
3. Can’t wait for Saturday
Try to have something to look forward to. The Yellows will be back playing soon. Think about how that’s going to feel!
4. We might be United but everyone’s different.
Please remember we all react to stress in different ways. What winds you up will be different from a friend, or loved one.
5. Time for a sub?
What will we change about our lives when this is all over? What have we learned ? Now is the time to plan for those changes, just like our manager does during a match.
Our thanks to Gary as ever. We have a podcast with a difference this week where Karl Robinson joins us to talk about Mental Health Awareness Week. Take a listen HERE
