Women Go Through in County Cup

Oxford United Women went through to the final of the Oxfordshire County Cup thanks to a 12-0 win over Oxford City at Court Place Farm this afternoon as braces from Cheryl Williams, Immy Lancaster and Emily Allen plus strikes from Sophie Baker, Georgia Timms, Carly Johns, Georgia Clifford, Daisy McLachlan and Kayleigh Hines sent the U's through  in emphatic style.

United took an early lead when Williams calmly rounded City keeper Morris to roll the ball into an empty net with Lancaster doubling the scoreline minutes later before Allen got in on the action to make it three when she anticipated a rebound off the post.

Lancaster, back from injury, made it 4-0 from long range before Williams made it 5-0 seconds later and Timms added to United’s tally to make it six at the break.

Liam Gilbert’s side made no attempt to take their foot off the gas as the second half got underway either and shortly after her introduction McLachlan beat the last City defender to power a low shot into the corner of the net before Baker also got her name on the scoresheet.

On 58 minutes Hines showed exactly what she does best as she made it 9-0 by arrowing her effort into the roof of the net before Johns picked herself up to covert a penalty in the 69th minute to make it double figures.

The U’s allowed no respite for City and Allen underlined United’s dominance by poking the ball underneath the onrushing goalkeeper to make it 11-0 by the 80th minute. Six minutes later, a bullet header from Clifford from a corner ended the scoring as United booked their place in the final.
