Oxford United head for Burton on Saturday looking to start 2021 the right way and, like most of the world, say good riddance to 2020.
"It’s been horrendous and we can’t wait to see the back of this year” boss Karl Robinson told iFollow today. “But it’s not all about football. It’s my job as Manager to talk about my club and the games but I am always aware that there are far greater priorities in life.
“If we can get wins, score goals and put a smile on people’s faces at the moment then that’s great but I know how worried everyone is, know that people have lost loved ones, been worried about friends and families, jobs, mental health and everything else that has happened this year. That’s the real world and we send our love to the fans and hope the new year is much better for all of them.
“It has been tough for us as a team this season as well but we have started to get results and you can see progress all over the pitch. We have been playing well and there is a growing sense of belief. We have started to dare to look up the table but we know there is a long way to go.
“But if you do look at the table then don’t be fooled on Saturday. I know a few of the Burton lads and they are a good group. They have a core of very experienced players who have played at a higher level and they will want to get a win on Saturday. We didn’t beat them last season in the two matches so we know it is going to be very difficult again for us.
“We have a bit of a break after this game and we are in decent form so it’s one we are really looking forward to.”
