Chairman Sumrith 'Tiger' Thanakarnjanasuth has enjoyed the last week just as much as all United fans, telling us:
"It is hard to put in to words what the last week has been like as Chairman of Oxford United. I am just so proud of everything that this team has done and I hope the fans have enjoyed it as much as I have.
As you know I cannot be here for every game but I watch them all on iFollow and the Lincoln game was incredible. So much belief and so many great goals; a club record. To see Tariqe score a hat-trick was a great moment for me personally. I have known him a long time, since he was just a kid in the youth team at Reading, and I knew he was a good player but he has become a fine young man who has the world at his feet. He is a pleasure to know, but so are all of this amazing squad and staff.
I flew in on Wednesday and was at the West Ham game and then there was no way I could just fly home again as planned; I had to stay for the Gillingham game as well!
I never heard the ground like it was against West Ham but then to come back and lift ourselves again to win in the league was almost as impressive. Almost!
I think we have made a breakthrough on so many levels. The players are all in top form, and I mean the whole squad not just the 11 who won on Saturday. I would not want to be Karl having to choose who to play at the moment. Tariqe won player of the week, the team won performance of the week, we beat a top Premier League side, we scored 13 goals and haven’t conceded in 5 games now so we have to enjoy this moment and applaud all of our players.
I want to tell you about the staff as well though. Karl gets the headlines, rightly, but Faz and Wayne Brown are a big part of what is happening and if I list all the people doing such great work then I will risk missing one out. Can I mention Amy and Shorty though, who head up our physio and strength and conditioning teams, and a quick word for Eddie Denton who has made the move to video analysis and will now have big pressure on him when I mention that we haven’t lost yet!! Karl gave the ‘Performance of the Week’ champagne to Jonny the Kit Man and little things like that just show how close everyone is behind the scenes.
In a perfect world we would win three or four nil every week, but in reality there are always going to be highs and lows in any season, but this year is so much better than where we were 12 months ago and I want the fans to enjoy it. Celebrate the good times and go in to work or school with a smile on your face on Monday morning because you have played a massive part in what is happening.
Like you, the board, staff and players are loving being part of what is happening. I always ask for more fans to come and see this team and it will happen if we keep playing the way we did last week, but help us spread the word and get more fans to come back and join us. We are playing our best football for many years, we have a chance to reach the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup and we are going up the league table very quickly.
What a great time to be part of Oxford United.
