Tariqe Fosu was the hero as Oxford United racked up a record 6-0 win at Lincoln on Saturday.
Fosu’s hat-trick capped a great team performance from the U’s with a long range effort the perfect way to claim the matchball. The modest Fosu told iFollow afterwards that his lack of celebration after his third goal was because the goal came as a bit of a surprise!
“It didn’t take a deflection but I thought it was over! When I watched it I thought ‘I’ve messed up here’ but it just hit the net and then I forgot to celebrate because I thought it was going over!”
A win over Tranmere, a draw at Bolton and then a win at Lincoln meant seven points, nine goals and three clean sheets in a week for the U’s who now move on to face West Ham United at home in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night
“We have been playing well and we have a really good team here so we knew we were capable of getting a result like this” Fosu said. “This was a difficult stadium to do it in: the home fans were still on it even at 4-0 down, credit to them but also to our fans who were unbelievable. But the result was brilliant and I think it just shows that we are back. Now we turn our attention to another big night and West Ham.”
Hopefully Tariqe will have relocated the matchball from Saturday by then
“The kit man nicked it off me!” he laughed. “But I will get it back off him and get a nice frame for it and put it in my house.”
