Oxford United came back with a point but were not at their fluent best at battling Bolton last night.
That was the message from skipper John Mousinho when he spoke to iFollow after the game:
“I thought Bolton looked a really decent side and I think with their back story and them conceding a few goals at the weekend the expectation was for us to come here and batter them and obviously we didn’t do that” he said “ but they are a side of really good players with great experience, some of them in the Premier League some in the Championship, so I don’t think that was ever realistic.
“Ultimately they played really well and it was probably one of our poorest performances of the season so to come away with a point has to be a positive.
“We got caught in the first 30 minutes and it was too open- the Manager described it as a game of basketball at half time and we know that it was a poor start and not good enough. We were better in the second half but did concede too many chances so certainly not a vintage performance and lots for us to work on.
“Our prep was good and we made sure we took nothing for granted but we weren’t playing the Bolton of the first seven or eight games we were playing the new Bolton, the rejuvenated one with the crowd up and at it and with really good players playing under a really experienced manager so I think the over all message has to be that we got away with one tonight.”
