Oxford United will not be offering new contracts to five of their players when their current deals end this summer.
Goalkeeper Scott Shearer, defenders Charlie Raglan and Fiacre Kelleher and forwards Jon Obika and Jonte Smith have all been told that they are free to find other clubs, but defender Curtis Nelson and forward Rob Hall have been offered new contracts while Jack Stevens and John Mousinho will remain at the U’s who have taken up an option on keeper Stevens’ deal to extend his stay, while Mousinho triggered an appearance based extension to his time with the U’s.
Karl Robinson told us:
“It has been a busy few days but we have been very honest with those who are moving on. They are all terrific people and it will be sad to see them go, but that is the nature of the game. Rob and Curtis now have their offers and we have spoken to them face to face about our plans; we hope they stay to be part of it but they both know where they stand.
“I don’t think there will be too many surprises in that list and we have already said that we wanted to keep the bulk of this squad together. We are watching players again this weekend and we are also talking to some of our existing players about extending their contracts, plus we have some really good young players who will hopefully be pushing to be involved so it is exciting to be building things right now.”
