Youth Team Beat Portsmouth

Oxford United’s under 18 side bounced back to winning ways with a fine 2-1 win away at Portsmouth in the EFL Youth Alliance League on Saturday.

A volley from Ryan Crooks in the first half and a late goal from sub Connor Ferguson earned the U’s a good win despite a late consolation from Portsmouth.

Leaon Blackmore-Such told us:

“The Merit League gives us a chance to try a few new things so we had a couple of our under 16s and two 15-year-olds involved as well as a trialist and we were really pleased with how we played. With Owen James on loan at Oxford City until the end of the season it gives him experience in a senior league but also opens the door for others to show what they can do.

"This was a really good win again and we created a lot of chances, although conceding a late goal meant we didn’t keep a clean sheet and I spoke to the boys about the importance of that and of keeping our standards high.”
