Jamie Mackie stands by for a first appearance of pre-season when Oxford United welcome QPR to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
Jamie made over 150 appearances for Rangers and his work rate and energy at Loftus Road made him a fans favourite, just as it has done at the U’s. Having missed last week’s games with a back problem he trained fully today and is in line for a return on Saturday, as Karl Robinson told us:
“It has been a bit frustrating because he had looked really good in the first few weeks of pre-season but then just felt his back tighten up so it was better not to risk him last week. But provided he comes through training today then he should be OK for 30 minutes on Saturday.
“We had good news on Shandon Baptiste as well who should be back in full training next week and might be in with a chance of being available for the opening game at Sunderland, and Rob Hall should be back on Monday as well. James Henry is fine after taking a knock at Woking last Saturday so we are OK injury-wise.
“The one we probably won’t play on Saturday is Gavin Whyte. He had international games this summer and is fine for fitness so we will look to rest him this weekend.
“It should be a good game. QPR are at roughly the same stage as us in their preparations and hopefully it’s an open game for the fans to watch.”
