Oxford United welcome Barnsley to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night looking to gain some level of revenge after the opening game of the season.
United were well beaten at Oakwell in August but Head Coach Karl Robinson wants his side to continue where they left off in their last home game, a win over leaders Portsmouth.
“We haven’t had back to back wins in the league” he told iFollow. “Doing it against Portsmouth and then Barnsley would be nice. It’s a game in hand that we want to use, and we have another in a couple of weeks - we have the two games in hand over a lot of teams down there.
“The intensity of Barnsley’s play on the opening day was incredible and I think they are the best team we have seen this season.
“We know they can play two or three systems and we have had a consistent look at them now. Don’t forget that we were 0-0 at their place until Samir had to go off with an injury and they scored from the area where he would have been. We lost Easty the next game and it was the beginning of a serious injury run for us.
“But after a great win against Portsmouth in our last home game we were gutted not just to lose at Bury in the next match but to slip into the relegation places as well. Results at the weekend could have been worse, but we know that we have a hard couple of weeks now and then two months of big big challenges. We are getting ourselves ready for those challenges and we know that on any given day we do have the players here to beat anybody.”
