Oxford United right-back Tony McMahon has joined Scunthorpe United on loan until the end of the season.
The 32-year old defender has made 13 starts for the U’s since signing in the summer but with Jamie Hanson doing well at right-back and Sam Long and Cameron Norman also in contention in that position, plus Tony wishing to move back north to be closer to his young family it is a move that Karl Robinson believes works for all parties.
“I have a lot of time for Tony” he said. “He is a great professional but for personal reasons he wants to move closer to home right now, and I totally respect that. It’s a position we have a little bit of competition for so it works for all of us and we wish him well.”
The loan includes a clause that means Tony will not be able to play when the teams meet in the league at Grenoble Road on March 2nd.
