There has been a setback for United’s on-loan Liverpool star Ben Woodburn.
The Wales international was on course for areturn to action over Christmas after breaking a bone in his foot against Accrington Stanley in October. That injury was healing nicely and Ben was due back with the U’s this week but then suffered a similar injury in the other foot last week.
Karl Robinson takes up the story:
“It was so frustrating because he was so close. Then he rang me to say he had done the other foot and I drove straight up to see him at home because he was distraught.
"He is a great lad and we all love him here so we have talked to Liverpool about the situation and we believe we can now extend his loan until the end of the season with the hope that he can come back and help us in the last month or two. That would also allow us to bring in another players in January.
“It was to do with how he loaded as he set off on runs but that is hopefully corrected and he will come back stronger for it, and having had so much bad luck then we are optimistic that we can also find a way of getting him back on loan for a full season next time.”
