Oxford United have welcomed the Football Association’s decision to delay the start of the U’s FA Cup third round tie at home to Hartlepool by one minute to encourage fans to 'Take A Minute' to think about looking after their mental health, as part of the Heads Up campaign.
The move has been applauded by Oxford United’s sports psychotherapist Gary Bloom, who told us;
“it’s a great idea. This football club is now right at the cutting edge of looking after the mental health and well-being of all our players from first team to Academy
"But it’s not just players. Everyone at the club is looking out for each other no matter what job you’re doing.
"The manager has been instrumental in driving this policy and I feel it has been part of the club‘s success this season.“
Oxford United will be showcasing their work with the first ever sports psychotherapy conference held at the Kassam Stadium on the 19th of February 2020.
Karl will be taking questions about the club's policy on mental health and player care as well as Academy boss Dan Harris, Gary Bloom, the Professional Football Association and other leading sports psychologists. If you’re interested about the relationship between psychology and sport it’s a great way to learn more.
