REPORT Oxford United Women 2 Plymouth Argyle 1

Oxford United  Women came back from a goal behind to beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 at Court Place Farm on Sunday thanks to goals from from  Georgia Timms and Kayleigh Hines.

United started brighly and had early chances but fell behind four minutes before the break  when Natasha Knapman latched onto a ball over the top of United’s defence and poked the ball past the onrushing Watson to give the visitors the advantage.

The U's levelled before the break though when Timms’ slotted the ball past Katie Middleton, a fine finish to change the managers’ half-time team talks.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first – a physical contest where both teams battled for possession in the midfield before the last 20 minutes saw the U's really turn up the pressure on Plymouth in freezing cold conditions

Neat play by United on the edge of The Pilgrims' box culminated in Emily Allen firing a shot at Middleton in goal, but the keeper did well to dive down to the near post and turn the dangerous attempt wide of the post.

A series of corners troubled the visitors, but in the 81st minute the U's were grateful to Gemma Sims who nicked the ball away from Knapman to prevent the visitors from taking the lead late on.

The U's then won the game through Hines for a second week running. Her free kick on the edge of the area curled above the wall and into the top left of the net out of reach from the goalkeeper.
