Oxford United Chairman Sumrith 'Tiger' Thanakarnjanasuth has thanked the fans for their magnificent support last night when Oxford United welcomed the champions of England.
11,956 people were there to see United take on Pep Guardiola’s star-packed side and Tiger told us:
“I want to thank everyone who came along and made it such a great occasion. I watched the Ultras set up their fantastic display that greeted the teams and I know many of them had to give up work for a day to make that happen. Then I saw all the young fans coming along wearing their yellow shirts, many of them with their families and with their grandparents. It was a real family occasion and I think showed once again what potential this club has and how it is in the hearts of so many people who have this passion for their football club.
“Manchester City commented on how great our fans were and how well the team played so that was great to hear.
“There will be plenty more big nights to enjoy and we want people to come back every week and be part of what we are looking to build. We have a massive home game against Luton next Tuesday - let’s have another big crowd and another big night, hopefully with an Oxford win to make it an even better celebration.
“Then when we play Shrewsbury on October 27th we have the celebration of the club’s 125th Anniversary and so many stars of the past joining us. We want a sold out ground again and a huge celebration of eveything this club has achieved in the first 125 years.”
