PREVIEW Oxford United v Walsall

Oxford United welcome Walsall to Grenoble Road on Saturday. Here we have a full guide to the game.

Team News

The U's welcome back Jamie Hanson after suspension but  are without Cameron Brannagan who is ruled out on medical grounds after a clash of heads at Wycombe last Saturday. Jamie Mackie, who missed that game with a hip injury, has subsequently seen a specialist and been ruled out for around six weeks, while Marcus Browne, who was on the bench last Saturday will be out of action for three weeks with a knee injury.

With two or three further knocks and strains the U's were down to 15 fit players after training yesterday and Head Coach Karl Robinson will monitor things closely before naming his side, with youngsters Fabio Lopes and Tsun Dai also nursing injuries at the moment.

There was good news with Samir Carruthers due to resume training in the next couple of weeks and Simon Eastwood not too far behind.

See Karl Robinson and Ricky Holmes previewing the game, plus a full Preview Show, all in iFollow ahead of the match.

The Opposition

Walsall lost for the first time last Saturday when beaten at home by Doncaster but remain unbeaten away from home and handily placed in sixth place in the table. Manager Dean Keates has been in place for six months and is enjoying life with the Saddlers

“To this point I am pleased – we achieved what we wanted last season and this season we have done OK,” he said. “I am very disappointed with Saturday. Our pride was hurt. But there has been a lot of change. We have integrated the new players into the squad and they have had an impact. There are still a lot of players from last season so there has been a lot of juggling.

“This club represents where I am from and what I have been about my whole life. It’s my hometown club. I stood on the terraces at Fellows Park and at the Banks’s."
