Oxford United winger Gavin Whyte has been called up again for Northern Ireland’s forthcoming International Challenge match and UEFA Nations League matches away to the Republic of Ireland and at home to Austria on Thursday 15th November and Sunday 18th November 2018 respectively.
Gavin scored on his debut for Northern Ireland against Israel then picked up his second cap last month against Bosnia and Herzegovina and will link up with Michael O’Neill’s squad next week, meaning that he misses United’s home league game against Gillingham on Saturday 17th.
Jamie Mackie will also miss that game due to a one game suspension after picking up five bookings this season with a yellow card at Scunthorpe last Saturday - the suspension applies to the next league game, rather than Saturday's FA Cup game at home to Forest Green Rovers as had been widely reported.
Gavin is not the only player to earn international recognition: midfielder Aaron Heap capped a good week with his first team debut at Wycombe on Tuesday night having been called up on stand by for the Wales under 19 squad for a tournament against Scotland, Sweden and San Marino.
