Oxford United made it through to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with an excellent 3-0 win at Forest Green Rovers last night.
“From the first game we knew they are a good side and it was going to be tough” Jamie Hanson told iFollow after the game “even if they are in League 2; they would cope in League 1 easily. But I think in this game we took our chances a lot more. 3-0 looks like we battered them but in actual fact half the time we had to dig in and all of our goals came on the counter attack really.
“But the counter attacks were what we had worked on all week and when they came we were clinical. Now we have to take it on to Saturday at Bradford.”
There was a new role for Jamie who switched effortlessly to right-back from his more usual midfield role and helped the U’s keep yet another clean sheet.
“I think everyone wants a clean sheet: that’s the first thing we aim for” he said.”I was asked to play right back and to be honest I have probably played more games there than in midfield. I felt like I did a job there. I just looked to slot in and play my normal game.”
United now return to league action as they head for Valley Parade on Saturday
“Yes, Bradford next” Jamie said “and we are in good form- is that eight games we haven’t lost? Win at Bradford and we would be nine points above them, but we could be closer to the play-offs than the bottom with a win so a couple more wins and the table looks so much different…”
