Oxford United’s 125th Anniversary has been a massive success and the club’s 'Proud History’ will be making a huge contribution towards its ‘Bright Future’ thanks to the generosity of fans this season.
Oxford United were formed in 1893 and we have been celebrating the anniversary with a series of events and fundraisers aimed at raising money for the Academy, which is doing fantastic work in bringing through the next generation of footballers for the football club.
Already this season 16-year olds Fabio Lopes and Slavi Spasov have played for the first team and recently local lad Aaron Heap, who has been with the club since he was ten, stepped up for his first team debut. In the same game Harvey Bradbury made his debut to follow his father Lee in playing for the U’s; the first father and son to ever play for Oxford United.
Over £10,000 has been raised for the Academy during the 125th Anniversary Celebrations. For example
- The Walsall 50:50 half time draw raised £2,807.50
- The 125 Limited Edition Replica Shirts raised £3,750.00
- The Auction at the 125 Dinner raised £3,436.80
But it doesn’t stop there and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the fans. At the 125 Celebration Shrewsbury match our 50:50 half time draw winner also kindly donated £200.00 of their winnings to the Academy.
Meanwhile the Oxford Mail have had to order more copies of their 125th Anniversary Magazine to cope with demand- £1 from each copy goes to the Academy and it is still on sale in the Oxford United Club Shop.
So now we are looking to end the year with one last chance for fans to celebrate with us and also help the Academy.
We have a number of signed match worn shirts from our games against Manchester City in the 3rd Round of the Carabao Cup and Shrewsbury Town celebrating our 125th Anniversary available via an online auction.
